Where do you go to find a mentor?  Here are a few resources to help you find the mentorship you are looking for:

Join us for our annual community reception where you'll find fellow first gen students along with faculty, residents, postdocs, fellows and alumni who share your background as first gen!  It's a great place to meet potential mentors!

Career Alumni Network
A good place to locate mentors is the Career Alumni Network, a database containing information on alumni who have volunteered to serve as informal career advisors for students and alumni.

  • The database is available to search on a computer in the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD). You don't need an appointment to search for alumni contacts and can access the database Monday -Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • The profiles in the database contain both the educational and career background of an alum as well as an alumni ID. If you wish to contact a particular alum, you will need to meet with a career counselor at OCPD. To arrange an appointment with a counselor, please call (415) 476-4986.
  • During the appointment, you and the counselor will discuss your specific goals and interest and discuss strategies for contacting and engaging with alumni.
